Our People
Managing Owner - Steve Dearien, CPA, CGMA
Steve is the President and Managing Owner of Dearien & Company, A.C. He has over 42 years of experience in public accounting, during which time he has served a diverse cross section of clients ranging in size and financial complexity from major multi-national, public companies to development stage and family-owned businesses.
Steve's public accounting experience includes 22 years with international and multi-office regional accounting and consulting firms in Charleston, West Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina where, as a member of the management groups of these firms, Steve managed concurrent audit, review, compilation and consulting engagements for dozens of clients across a wide variety of industries (manufacturing, retail, wholesale, construction, regulated utilities, nonprofit and state and local governmental).
In addition to being a CPA, Steve has achieved the designation of Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), the global designation for management accountants.
Steve graduated cum laude from West Virginia University in May 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration entailing a double major in accounting and personnel management.
Steve is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (WVSCPAs). He is a current member of the Executive Committee of the Illinois CPA Society's Peer Review Alliance and currently serves as a Chair of one of the Peer Review Alliance's Peer Review Acceptance Subcommittees. Steve is also the immediate Past Chairman of the Peer Review Committee of the WVSCPAs.
Steve is a Past President and Past Treasurer of the Board of Directors of The West Virginia Beta Alumni and Volunteer Corporation of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and a Past Treasurer of the Board of Directors of West Virginia Health Right, Inc. He is also a Past President of the Board of Directors of The Children's Therapy Clinic, Inc. where he also served as Past Chairman of the Finance Committee. Steve is also a Past Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce and Development where he served as an Executive Committee Member.
Steve is a graduate of both the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership School and the Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce and Development Leadership School
Firm Administrator - Tammy R. Green
Tammy joined the firm in September 2009 and was promoted to Firm Administrator in September 2010.
Tammy graduated from West Virginia Junior College in 2004 with a Specialized Associate Degree in Medical Assisting/Office Technology.
Prior to joining Dearien & Company, A.C. in 2009, Tammy worked extensively in both the legal and healthcare fields.
She is responsible for all of the administrative functions of the firm, including, but not limited to, client billing and accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, human resources, personnel, information technology and word processing.
Our History
Located in the center of the historic Renaissance Village area of downtown Charleston, West Virginia, Dearien & Company, A.C. was founded by Steve Dearien in January 2004, when he spun-off the then existing audit practice of a regional, multi-office CPA firm at which he was an owner. As a local CPA and consulting firm headquartered in West Virginia, the firm provides audit, tax and consulting services to a diverse cross section of clients throughout West Virginia.
Our Credentials
Dearien & Company, A.C. is proud to participate in the AICPA Peer Review Program, as administered for West Virginia firms by the Peer Review Alliance.
These triennial reviews meet the objectives of quality control standards established by the AICPA and reaffirm the excellence of our accounting and auditing practice.
Our system of quality control provides assurance that we maintain, on a continuing basis, the high professional standards to which we are committed. Since its inception, the firm has never been the object of any disciplinary action and has never received anything other than an unmodified report on its system of quality control related to its accounting and auditing practice, having now completed a total of six triennial peer reviews.
Dearien & Company, A.C. completed our most recent peer review in February 2022, and received a pass report. The Peer Review Alliance Committee accepted our peer review report in May 2022.
